The impact of web-based technologies on business organisations: A review and thoughts on the future
Almost all of the published work in the academic and popular press on Web-Based Technologies (WBT) - most notably the internet - emphasises the merits. While WBT have had an extraordinary, and arguably positive net influence on business organisations, they have also created a number of significant challenges for managers. This paper proposes a framework for evaluating the positive and negative influences of WBT, outlining economic, organisational and customer factors that have influenced organisations in far-reaching ways. If organisations are to harness the full benefits of technology, they must become fully aware and minimise the negative 'side effects' of these advances.
