Location of Marker: Amphitheater grounds, University of North Alabama. Text: Florence State Teachers College Heroes of World War II. During World War II, more than 300 graduates and former students of this institution served in the U.S. armed forces. All are hereby honored as heroes. Roden (Feb. 1944): Florence; Cpl. Don M. Montgomery (Jul. 1944): Florence; Second Lt. Robert B. McCord, Jr. (Oct. 1944): Sheffield; First Lt. Emerson C. Lucas Jr. (Oct. 1944): Florence; Capt. Ralph Berg (Nov. 1944): Florence; Second Lt. Jack F. Knox (Apr. 1945): Stevenson; Vol. Jack W. Douthitt (Apr. 1945): Florence; Lt. (j.g.) Marvin W. Johnson (May 1945): Arley; PFC Edward T.
